Robert “Bob” Sutton - August 18, 1927 ~ June 5, 2016

Today the wildfowl carving world is in mourning with the news that our dear friend and mentor Robert “Bob” Sutton has died peacefully in his sleep during the early hours of June 5th, 2016. Many of you know Bob had been in poor health for some time now, but for those who loved him, it is a comfort knowing he was allowed to slip peacefully from this life easily.

Bob, as he was known to everyone in the wildfowl carving world, was such a wonderful man whose character far surpassed his stature, and allowed him to become one of the most influential people we have ever known. He came into the picture many years ago, as the voice that represented all competitive carvers, by pursuing the dream that all competition rules should be the same at all shows, in the best interest of wildfowl carving.

He was adamant we start working with youth programs to help encourage them to continue wildfowl carving as they become adults. Through his endeavors in those early years, he was able to be at the forefront of establishing the International Wildfowl Carvers Association, which would establish those rules which apply today.

That vision which he pursued for so many years will be a large part of his legacy and continue on, into the future of wildfowl carving. His presence will be felt at the shows down the road and we will always remember him.
