Bob Sutton - A Celebration of Life

As some of you may know, Bob had requested that there be no funeral, but instead a celebration of his life. He also requested his ashes be brought to a final resting place in Fayetteville, Arkansas. While there will be no funeral services, family and friends are invited to celebrate his life on Saturday, June 25th from 12Noon to 4:00pm at Phil Trani’s restaurant in Long Beach, CA, one of Bob’s favorite places to go out to eat.

The trip to California for this event will most likely be prohibitive for many of those who would have liked to attend. The family is asking for Bob’s friends to post photos they may have of Bob from over the years, or perhaps you could make a short video with thoughts on how Bob may have touched your life. Maybe you have a funny anecdote or memory of Bob? These contributions will be put together for a video presentation during the celebration.

Here's a link to Bob’s Facebook page where you can post video, photos or stories…

https://www.facebook.com/bob.sutton.7315?fref=ts

If you are not on Facebook, but you would like to contribute please send your photos, videos, or written stories to Bob’s sister Peggy Devers via e-mail at Peggymdevers@aol.com.

If you plan on flying in for the celebration, flying into Long Beach is always the easiest, rather than LAX.

It will also be important to call Paul Devers, Bob’s nephew, and let him know (RSVP) that you will be attending the event so they can be sure and have enough seating for all. He can be reached at 562-388-9161.

Here’s is the address of the celebration…

Phil Trani’s Restaurant

3490 Long Beach Blvd.

Long Beach, CA 90807

Please direct your questions to Paul regarding this event. The family looks forward to seeing and/or hearing from you.

Robert “Bob” Sutton - August 18, 1927 ~ June 5, 2016

Today the wildfowl carving world is in mourning with the news that our dear friend and mentor Robert “Bob” Sutton has died peacefully in his sleep during the early hours of June 5th, 2016. Many of you know Bob had been in poor health for some time now, but for those who loved him, it is a comfort knowing he was allowed to slip peacefully from this life easily.

Bob, as he was known to everyone in the wildfowl carving world, was such a wonderful man whose character far surpassed his stature, and allowed him to become one of the most influential people we have ever known. He came into the picture many years ago, as the voice that represented all competitive carvers, by pursuing the dream that all competition rules should be the same at all shows, in the best interest of wildfowl carving.

He was adamant we start working with youth programs to help encourage them to continue wildfowl carving as they become adults. Through his endeavors in those early years, he was able to be at the forefront of establishing the International Wildfowl Carvers Association, which would establish those rules which apply today.

That vision which he pursued for so many years will be a large part of his legacy and continue on, into the future of wildfowl carving. His presence will be felt at the shows down the road and we will always remember him.
